Our Drama Awards Night Banquet and Thespian Initiation was held on Tuesday, May 22, at 6:00 PM on the Reinhart Auditorium stage. Lots of new Thespians were inducted and we said a fond farewell to our graduating seniors. As always, the Senior Wishes and Candle Ceremony was very moving and emotional. The Reinharts also put together a beautiful video montage of Mrs. Seaver's career at MHS. A special thanks to the Drama Boosters who worked so hard to make the event such a success.

workshop, or serve as a Drama Club officer. The Thespian Society is an
international honor society for high schools student who achieve a level of
excellence in theatre-related activities. Our local chapter, Troupe #1692, was
chartered in the 1950s and has been affiliated with the national and
international organization ever since. With Thespian membership, students are
eligible to compete for special college scholarships, attend regional and state
conferences, audition for contest play and the All-State play, and earn the
right to wear the gold and blue Thespian senior cords at graduation. After
earning a total of 10 Thespian points, students are eligible for membership.

This year we will be creating emergency toiletry packets for women coming into the St. Jude Shelter for battered women. Each packet will have personal necessities such as travel size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, soaps, nail files, sewing kits, hand and body lotion. Our Thespian Troupe is actively involved in service projects in our own community and around the country. Every year we participate in a fundraising activity for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This organization helps people both in and out of the theatre community who are living with AIDS, provides direct assistance to people in need as well as money for AIDS research. As a high school affiliate of BC/EFA, Troupe #1692 sponsors "Red Ribbon" performances where cast and crew members solicit donations from the audience in exchange for an AIDS Awareness red ribbon. Our troupe has contributed several hundred dollars of the past several years to this worthy cause. Last year we had a direct audience appeal at the State Thespian conference during intermission of our play SYLVIA, and collected $250 which we sent directly to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Our Thespians also have contributed in the past to the American Cancer Society, the Indiana Diabetes Foundation, and St. Jude House for Battered Women and Children. Last year we contributed two bed frames and two new twin size mattresses to St. Jude House as part of our community outreach program. Thespians also helped sponsor the "Diverse but Unified" bracelets which are being sold to help a teacher with medical and financial problems. For the last three years we have participated in a new project with International Thespians called Trick-or-Treat So Kids Can Eat. The first year members of our SEUSSICAL cast and crew trick-or-treated in costume distributing flyers about our upcoming production and requesting canned goods instead of treats. We were able to fill up an entire car and trunk with canned goods which were donated to the St. Jude Shelter. Last year some of our cast and crew members from CHILDREN OF EDEN went collecting at Halloween for Thespians' TRICK-or-Treat So Kids Can Eat. They collected 176 canned or boxed goods which were donated to the Student Government's annual food drive. We were rewarded with a Pizza Party during "Drama Lunch."
